About this deal

OXO have been making thoughtfully designed, easy-to-use household utensils and items since 1990. The brand takes a closer look at everyday objects and activities, then decides how to make them simpler, faster and easier through intelligent design and subtle tweaks. OXO utensils are friendly, functional, high-quality and can make your everyday life that little bit easier. Peelers might be one of the most common kitchen gadgets, right alongside wooden spoons. Unlike spoons, though, there are a lot of differences between models. From the general shape of the peeler and the blade material to the handle material and the color, there are a lot of options from which to choose. There are two basic shapes for handheld potato peelers: straight or Y-shaped. Which shape you choose is all about personal preference. Kyocera is known for its incredibly sharp ceramic knives, so it’s no surprise that it also offers peelers with ceramic blades. This Y-shaped peeler won’t rust or corrode, and the ceramic material minimizes food browning, which is great when you’re peeling large quantities of apples or potatoes. Like Kyocera’s ceramic knives, the blade on this peeler is made from the company’s proprietary zirconia material that will stay sharp much longer than similar metal knives. Traditional peelers feature a double vertical blade positioned parallel to the handle and is better at getting around curves and edges, says Nicole Papantoniou, Kitchen Appliances & Innovation Lab Director.

Type of blade: Do you want a straight or serrated edge blade? Straight edge blades can be better for potatoes and create a more presentable, smooth finish, but serrated edges can be more efficient for soft and delicate fruits. OXO products don’t just offer a helping hand in the kitchen. In our collection of OXO utensils and household tools, you’ll find OXO Good Grip squeegees to make cleaning your shower a doddle, plus a range of high-performance OXO cleaning brushes to use around the home. If you browse our full range, we’re sure you’ll find the OXO product you’re looking for to help out in your home. With a super sharp stainless steel blade, this handy tool can peel even the hardest food skins with ease and includes a built in eyer for removing any unwanted blemishes or imperfections. With a chunky, non-slip handle, this high-quality peeler is comfortable and easy to hold, ensuring safe peeling even with wet hands. People who already own a stand mixer will love this multifunction peeler, spiralizer, and slicer. Much like hand-cranked peelers, but motorized by the mixer’s power hub, this will make short work of a pile of potatoes. When it’s apple season, you can peel, core, and slice bushels of apples with little effort. Change the blade, and you can spiralize potatoes, zucchini, beets, and more. We liked it for its speed when compared to handheld options. Making your own vegetable chips, whether you fry or bake them, is easier than you think. Almost any root vegetable can be made into homemade vegetable chips. Other options includerutabaga, turnips, celery root, and yuca. The vegetables are peeled, thinly sliced, and then soaked in water. After drained and dried, they are fried, kept warm, and then tossed with seasoned salt. Kyocera has made a name for itself with super-sharp ceramic knives, so it should come as no surprise that this ceramic peeler performs just as well. The Y-shaped tool won't rust or corrode, and the ceramic material minimizes food browning, which comes in handy when peeling large amounts of apples or potatoes. Like Kyocera’s ceramic knives, the blade on this peeler is made from the company’s proprietary zirconia material and will stay sharp much longer than similar metal knives.

Reviewers are immensely pleased with this product, noting that they were able to peel more difficult produce items, such as butternut squash. We found the same to be true during our tests, noting this peeler shines when working with firm produce, like carrots, apples, and cucumbers. However, we found it unable to peel softer-skinned fruit, like tomatoes; For that job, you’ll do better with one of the serrated blade peelers on this list.

What is the best potato peeler?

There are three common types of blade materials: stainless steel, ceramic, and carbon steel. Stainless steel blades are by far the most popular because it is the one material that you can sharpen like you would with knives. Ceramic blades are similar in sharpness to stainless steel, but when it comes to toughness and durability, they can be more prone to breaking or dulling. Lastly, carbon steel blades are susceptible to rust if not taken care of properly. This means you will have to wipe down after each use, so the blade isn’t wet. Comfort: Think about how easy the peeler is to hold. Does it have a non-slip or easy grip handle that stays firm even with wet hands?

OXO have come a long way since Sam Farber designed that first OXO peeler. Today, you’ll find a wide array of OXO kitchen utensils available at Lakeland, from saucepans with comfortable stay-cool handles and Good Grip garlic presses to easy-to-use soft handled can openers and these fantastic multi-purpose fruit preparation tools. With its large, easy-to-grip rubber handle, the OXO peeler sits comfortably in the hand. Even if you suffer from limited dexterity or have small hands, you'll find using this y peeler comfortable. The super sharp, stainless steel blade effortlessly glides through the most stubborn of veg, saving you both time and effort. CPC99 Perfect Peeler Great peeler for many fruits and vegetables especially if you are affected by arthritis. One of the first products ever 'invented' by the founder of OXO Good Grips - this iconic swivel peeler was the start of a range of kitchen tools, all ergonomically-designed to suit every generation of user. OXO peelers and tools were especially focused on those with arthritis, who may struggle to grip utensils tightly.

nikoru BRILLIANT PEELER Probably the best peeler I've ever had, easy to hold and you can go very fast, you just have to be careful as it is so sharp, it goes for may nails. It came with a plastic guard but it didn't hold in place, it's transparent and got lost in the drawer! The grip has finger-hold ridges, but they may not be perfect for every user. We found them a little off for the way we wanted to grip the peeler, but other users may love it. The blade swivels so it’s at the right angle for cutting, and the peeler managed to remove the peels in one swipe without removing an excessive amount of the actual potato. When all the work is done, cleanup is easy since it’s dishwasher safe.

Electric peelers run on a motor and save you time and effort. Some are self-contained and run on their own power, while others are attachments for appliances like a stand mixer. They generally spin the produce against a blade to remove the skin in a continuous strip. They're helpful if you're facing a big batch or if you have trouble using manual peelers. With a few exceptions, peelers are among the least expensive kitchen gadgets, so it’s not unusual to see several different peelers in the gadget drawer—each with its own purpose—because peeling carrots is much different than peeling tomatoes. Since they’re inexpensive, it’s also nice to have a spare, so you’re not waiting for the dishwasher to finish before you can peel the Yukons.

1. Best overall potato peeler: OXO Good Grips Y Shaped Peeler

The handle isn’t uncomfortable, but it's not as comfortable as peelers with larger or soft-grip handles. While this cut well in testing, the cutting felt rough rather than smooth because of the way it’s sharpened. Although it isn’t a serrated peeler, a close inspection showed that the sharpening is slightly rough. The peeler rattled a bit during cutting, which made it seem less sturdy, but it still got the job done. Since it has two sharp cutting edges, we could cut in either direction, and it’s great for both left- and right-handed users.
